Atlantis Tip Blog 7| An Expert’s Guide to the Kids Club

Atlantis Kids Club:

atlantis kids club

The Atlantis Kids club is called AKA (Atlantis Kids Adventures). It caters to children, ages 3-12.   If you read some of my testimonials on my facebook page, several people mentioned how amazing the staff is and how professionally this club is run.  No wonder this Kids club has won several awards and was voted one of the top ten coolest Kids’ Clubs by Travel Impressions 2015.  I took a tour of the facility (tours are offered daily for parents at 10 am and 2 pm if you want to check out the club first). Every day the club is open from 10:30 am to midnight.  You can have your child attend an adventure for a few hours during the day or drop them off for an evening program.

This is not your typical kids club with one room.  There are several different themed rooms, outdoor areas and activities for all ages.  They also have video screens for movies and video games but their most popular activity is their “culinary adventures”.   The Culinary Adventures is for children ages 6-12.   These are 2 hour sessions and have themes such as Cupcake central, the Candy Ocean, and All about Treats, etc.  The kids create delicious dishes in a state of the art kitchen created just for kids – it was adorable and very creative.  There are also several programs that take advantage of the outdoor areas of the resort (pool and beach bonanza, fish tales and more).  The Kids Club publishes a flyer for the week so you can see what looks good and then sign your child up.  The culinary adventures are $48.38 per child.

Atlantis Kids Club Tip:

Sign up for a culinary adventure when you arrive – they do fill up during peak seasons.

Atlantis Club Crush:

Crush

I had an amazing tour of the teen nightclub called CRUSH!  This place is unbelievable!  Tours are offered daily at 3:30 pm.  CRUSH is the ultimate nightclub for teens ages 13 to 17.  It is open from 8:30 pm to Midnight and located in the Coral Tower. Price is $26.88 per teen (varies by season).  They also have family sessions from 4 pm to 8 pm where they host fun family games ($15.00 per person).

CRUSH is a 14,000 square-foot space that boasts an Internet lounge, a Gaming Room stocked with state-of-the-art technology, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Wii and Wii U,  a floor-to-ceiling gaming tree with 24 gaming console and ten private gaming cabanas. Video walls decorate the Dance Club’s VIP section and a live DJ is accessible via a touch screen song request system.  I felt like I was in a cool adult club. Why didn’t they have this type of thing while I was a teen on vacation?  There’s also a CRUSH Concession Stand and Bar that serves up a variety of snacks and “mocktails”.  I had lengthy conversations with the club manager and security staff in the club about how stringent they are about staffing and security in and outside of the club.  The teens have a great time but there is security all over and they have a strict no “PDA” rule.  I was impressed by the staff and the club was immaculate.    I also met several teens who were excited to go back to the club the next night.  It is a fun social place and parents can have some alone time in the casino or the adult nightclub without having to worry about their teens.

Atlantis Club Crush Tip:

Age verification is required, so take a picture of your kids passport on your phone before you go to drop them off at the club so you don’t have to go back to the room and get it.  They will not be let in unless you provide age verification.

Atlantis Tip Blog 6| An Expert’s Guide to the Marina Village

Tags :

The epicenter of the Atlantis resort is Marina Village.  It is the place to walk around for shopping, dining and free nightly entertainment. The Marina Village is located at the Atlantis (everything is located right there and I keep mentioning this because this is what makes Atlantis such an easy and relaxing vacation – you never have to leave the resort)!

Atlantis Marina village

While walking through the Marina you are looking at all the huge yachts – which is just beautiful.   There are 20 cute shops in the Marina to peruse as well as a Ben and Jerry’s, Starbucks, adorable candy store and several casual restaurants (Carmine’s, Johnny Rockets, Quiznos, Bimini Road).   We also love the Daiquiri stand that offers both Virgin and regular frozen Daiquiris.  Fun to grab one after dinner and walk around the Marina Village.   Our favorite restaurant in the Marina is Bimini Road.  It is a cool indoor restaurant with an outdoor bar.  The lobster is amazing!  The best part is the live music they have playing on the outside deck at night.  We loved the Bahamian group singing Journey “Don’t stop believin’” and other 80’s hits.  The singers are interactive and lively– more free entertainment to take advantage of at the Atlantis.  There are also steel drum bands, a stilt walker and more throughout the Marina Village.

Marina Village Tip:

Get to Bimini Road early for dinner. They don’t take reservations and it is a very popular place!

Atlantis Tip Blog 5| An Expert’s Guide to the Rob Lake Magic Show

Tags :

4DkmDQVdA huge highlight of our trip was the amazing new Magic Show at the Atlantis.  We saved this show for our last night.

This summer the Atlantis featured The Magic of Rob Lake, performing in the Atlantis Theater Wednesdays through Sundays at 8 pm.  I am hoping they bring him back again this summer! Run, do not walk to get tickets to this family show! (Tickets are ordered at the box office in the Beach tower).   I send a ton of business to Las Vegas as well as the Atlantis so I have seen every show imaginable and this is hands down one of the best!  In researching Rob Lake online I now see he won International Magician of the year and has performed his grand illusions all over the world. This is a first class show and truthfully I felt it was an incredible bargain.  This entire show is fantastic!  My family was in awe and we loved every second of it!  We also could not believe the amazing value.  An adult ticket is $44.00 and kids are $10.   They sell popcorn and concessions in the theater before the show.   The audience participation was huge for both kids and adults.

Rob Lake Magic Show Tip:

Stick around after the show to get an autograph and take a picture with Rob Lake – My daughter and I were definitely star struck.  I was happy to have the opportunity to tell Rob in person that his show was amazing and I was planning on recommending it to all of my customers.   He was humble, thankful and adorable – loved it!

Atlantis Tip Blog 4| An Expert’s Guide to the Casino and Fitness

Tags :

Atlantis Casino Paradise Island:

The casino at the Atlantis is a glitzy, clean Vegas style casino that features Las Vegas rules and 86 table games including:

  • casinoBlackjack
  • Baccarat
  • Mini-Baccarat
  • Craps
  • Roulette
  • Let It Ride Poker
  • Caribbean Stud Poker

Gambling age in the Bahamas is 18 years old and table games are open daily from 10am to 4am.  My husband spent a few hours in the casino most nights and said the dealers were fun and friendly (and of course drinks in the casino are always free).   There are 750 of the newest slot machines and each slot machine is equipped with the latest in ticket/ ticket-out technology and state of the art rating system.  Your room key doubles as your players card and you can earn comps on your gambling action that can be redeemed at the end of your stay. Daily slot tournaments are offered in the mornings and everyone is a winner (prizes range from $10.00 in free slot play to $100 in free slot play).  The casino also offers free gaming lessons twice daily.

Atlantis Casino Tip:

I have been a casino marketing representative for 25 years and I always say, do not play a dime without presenting your players card at the table.  If you get your casino play rated you will be on their loyalty list and eligible to receive future room promos and offers.  Do not gamble without showing your card!

Fitness at the Atlantis:

My husband used the fitness center often and we both were impressed with the quality of the machines and equipment.  All treadmills have a built in TV.   State of the art – clean and convenient. The fitness center fee is included in your resort fee.  There is also a lap pool right outside the fitness area as well as a Pilates and yoga studio (extra charge for these classes). There is also tennis courts and a full size basketball court that Michael Jordan hosts tournaments on every year.  There is a cool rock climbing wall also as well as a big Shuffleboard game near the beach.  Every which way you turn at the Atlantis you discover something new.

Atlantis Tip Blog 3| An Experts Kid Activity Guide to Making the Best of Your Family Trip

Tags :

Family and Kid Activities:

Activities and marine attractions (marine exhibits, aquariums, turtles, stingrays, sharks) are everywhere at the Atlantis.   A great summer bonus is when Cartoon Network comes to the Atlantis for the summer (June through September).

Atlantis Obstacle Course

Cartoon Network Obstacle Course Tip:

On the day you arrive go to the Cartoon Network Obstacle course and sign up for a time.  You need to make a reservation early (it is free) to make sure you get a time slot.

Attend Free Activities at The Atlantis Resort:

The Cartoon Network Character parade in Marina Village is on Tuesdays and Friday evenings at 7 pm.   Also, don’t miss the “Screen on the Green”.   Monday, Thursday and Friday at 8 pm on the Dolphin Cay lawn.  My daughter loved this!  They put up a huge inflatable screen on the lawn with chairs and Cartoon Network blankets and the kids watch their favorite Cartoon Network shows.  Beautiful outdoor nighttime activity!

outdoor movie

Cartoon Network Tip:

Get there on time to get the free Cartoon Network sunglasses that they give out – who doesn’t love free stuff!

 Paddle-boarding at the Atlantis:

We also loved Paddle-boarding in the Paradise Lagoon.   It is a great fun family activity – $44 per person for ½ hour.  Very relaxing and refreshing.  While paddling in the lagoon you are next to the Cartoon Network obstacle course so it’s like you are watching a live version of the show “Wipeout”.  Well, not that intense because the obstacle course is for kids but great entertainment and scenery all around.

Ocean and Beach:

I can’t say enough about how beautiful, clear and blue the water is in the Caribbean.  Perfect temperature, crystal clear water, beautiful sandy beach – we couldn’t get enough of the ocean.  The beaches and sand are clean and we swam and relaxed at the beach for hours.  The great part about the Atlantis is that the beaches are right there – no driving anywhere to get to the beach – you can go from beach to pool to water-slide to aquarium very easily.

Atlantis Tip Blog 2 | An Experts Food Guide to Making the Best of Your Family Trip

Meal Planning Options:

To meal plan or not to meal plan – that is the big question.    I have several customers who swear that it saves them money and others who will not touch the meal plan.  The biggest benefit to the meal plan is knowing exactly what you will be spending on meals (not counting alcohol or lunch). The full Atlantis plan is $149 per adult, per day.  The other big benefit of the meal plan is that kids 6 and under eat free with the purchase of an adult meal plan.  So if you are a family with young kids and the kids will order the kids menu (and/or share some of your meal too) then you are in good shape.

If your kids normally order off an adult menu or you are not the type to have both a very large breakfast and very large dinner you may be better going a la carte.

tzoo.dp.media.10564.63832.atlantisrestauraunts

Atlantis Meal Planning Tip:

I have all the menus for all the restaurants so we can have in depth discussions on what is the best value for your family.

Atlantis Resort Restaurants:

Lunch for my family was always at one of the 15 outdoor dining options.  We wished these pool food stands were open for dinner!   Everything we ordered from burgers to salads to wraps were fresh and tasty.   You don’t normally expect that from pool food but we have always been very happy with the poolside food at the Atlantis and most of my customers agree!   Portions are large and prices are reasonable.  The fresh fruit in the Bahamas is always amazing, in season and my favorite afternoon poolside snack.  They give you a huge bag of cut up fresh fruit for $9.00.  We all shared it – it was perfect.   We also loved the large Caesar wrap (fresh grilled chicken) and the Greek salad was huge with tons of feta cheese! The value meals range from $10.00 to $12.00 and come with a hamburger, hot dog or chicken strips – chips and a drink.

Soft Drink Tip:

The soft drinks are self serve so you can get one drink for $3.50 and refill your cup at all the soda stations throughout the whole day (we never actually did this because we were on the go and forgot but I kept saying I wanted to try and drink 10 diet cokes for $3.50).

Virgil’s BBQ and Carmines Restaurants:

virgilsVirgil’s BBQ and Carmines are two casual restaurants that offer family style dining.  (Entrées feed 3-4 people easily).  So if everyone in your family can agree on ordering an appetizer or salad and a huge plate of chicken or pasta or steak then family style dining is for you and I highly suggest these 2 restaurants.  Reservations are needed (I can make these in advance for you.  If you decide you want to cancel you may do so with the concierge as long as it is by 4 pm that day).

mosiacAtlantis Buffets:

My family is usually not “buffet” people but I must say we really liked the buffet options at the Atlantis (Marketplace at Royal Tower and Mosiac at the Cove). It is not a buffet line but rather different stations with tons of choices.  Mosiac is first class with a variety of fresh sushi, steak, shrimp, pasta stations, etc etc!  The Mosiac buffet is much nicer and more upscale than Marketplace and we were surprised it was only about $10.00 more.   We ate at Olives (a newer Atlantis restaurant –  a Todd English restaurant just like the one at the Bellagio Las Vegas) which was also excellent.  Great service, big martinis and pretty atmosphere.

Atlantis Restaurant Tip:

Olives SignAt Olives restaurant ask to eat outside on the patio or in the “birds eye view” area.  Both these spots are looking right at the huge yachts docked in the Marina.  Just being in the presence of these $100 million dollar yachts is makes you feel pretty fancy.

Food delivery service – outside the Atlantis resort:

Several of my clients have used FoodStore2Go.com but this was my first time trying it myself.  FoodStore2Go is an online grocery store and delivery service that specializes in delivering to Atlantis vacationers. This service was amazing!  My husband and I figured we would place a small order for beverages and fruit and see how it worked out.  The minimum order is $50.00 and delivery is $9.00.  (I also tipped the driver $5.00).  Prices were reasonable.  A slight markup from a Bahamian grocery store but not much and with no hassle! I had advised people in the past that on the way to the resort your cab driver could stop at a local grocery store and you could go shop and stock up but this is 10 times easier. Convenience is everything to me!  We ordered a case of water ($19.00), 1 liter of Vodka ($14.00), 4 cans of Red Bull ($3.00 per can), a few cans of Cranberry juice ($1.49 each) and a 3 pound bag of small Gala apples ($8.49 for the bag).  You provide your airline info so the delivery driver knows when to meet you at the Atlantis (about an hour after your flight lands).  Right on time the delivery driver sent me a text telling me he was ready with my delivery whenever I was checked in and had my room number.

After I checked in I met the nice driver right outside the Royal Tower.  He unloaded my groceries and got a bellman to bring everything up to my room. Check out the food lists online – there is tons of stuff (most people I know order water, alcohol, mixers and snacks of all kinds).  Bottom line is this saved us a ton of money on alcohol by the pool (or a cocktail before dinner) and saved us on bottled water. We weren’t obsessive about this because it is vacation and we wanted to enjoy ordering and sitting at the pool bars with other vacationers but it was great to have this stuff in our room when we wanted it.  I highly recommend this delivery service!

Food Delivery Service Tips:

Place your order and use a special code specifically for Dana Rubin Casino Services guests and receive $5.00 off your order.

Note: If you do not want to spend a minimum of $50.00 there is a small shopping center right across the street from the Coral Tower at the Atlantis (Picture).  There is a liquor store there, Dunkin Donuts and small grocery store.  I compared prices to my FoodStoretoGo list and they were about the same.  I saw several people lugging cases of water out of there but that’s not for me.  I much prefer the delivery service but wanted to share that this is an option also for you to save money at the resort.

Atlantis Tip Blog 1 | An Experts Guide to Making the Best of Your Family Trip

Tags :

I am so excited to share with my readers tips from my latest family trip to the Atlantis Bahamas Resort.  Each week, I will post insider information on the best rooms/tower to stay in, kids activities, places to eat, entertainment, how to make the most out of the casino and overall which places/things are not to be missed!

Atlantis Hotel

Outside The Atlantis Hotel

Atlantis Bahamas Rooms and Towers:

royal tower west

Royal Tower West

I booked my room this trip in the Royal Tower West. This is the first time I stayed in Royal Tower West (I usually stay in the Royal Tower East).  Both Royal Tower East and Royal Tower West have French Balconies (you can open the door and walk out on the balcony to take pictures and selfies but it is not a full balcony that can have chairs on it).   Royal Tower West does have a few full balconies on the corner rooms on a few of the floors.  West tower is little quieter than the Royal Tower East – elevator banks and general foot traffic was less busy in the West tower.   I have stayed in both the East and West tower.  Royal Tower East is also a very central location for the waterpark and main Atlantis attractions and also has spectacular water views.    East is slightly closer to the casino and Marina Village. West is perfect if you plan on using the Kids Club and the fitness center.  We had a wonderful water view (could see the lush green of the entire resort plus the waterslides and ocean from the balcony).  Pleasantly surprised to find 2 comfortable white robes in the closet.   Our room had 2 queen beds.  We requested a rollaway bed and that is no extra charge.  There was plenty of space to move around the room  – even with the rollaway bed.

Atlantis Room Tip:

Rooms in the West tower with a full balcony are hard to get and go quickly but you can always ask for a balcony room upon check-in and maybe you will get lucky.

Atlantis Bahamas Water-slides and Pools:

Family in the pool

Family in the pool

Pools are open from 9 am to 7 pm (Water-slides open at 10 am).   We were there at the end of June (peak summer vacation time) and although we waited in line for most of the slides it was not too long of a wait and the lines go quickly.  We liked to park our stuff (towel, sunscreen, room key) at the Royal Baths pool (located very close to Royal Tower West) and then took off for the water-slides.  All the water-slides are right there in the resort – very easy!

Kids pool

Kids pool

Several times our 12 year old daughter took off to do some rides on her own while my husband and I relaxed at the pool.  We also bought a Nerf football for the pool and my daughter and husband loved tossing the football around the Royal Baths pool.  Tons of room to play with fun music playing.

Me on the Leap of Faith slide!

Me on the Leap of Faith slide!

With 18 pools and 10 water rides there is something for all ages.  The best waterslide and the one you always see on TV is the Leap of Faith.  It looks crazy scary and intimidating but trust me – it is a thrill!  Do not leave the Atlantis without experiencing this ride.  I promise you will love it!  For the little kids (under 48”) there are several kids pools/areas with mini water-slides – almost like a mini version of the big stuff.

Atlantis Pools Tip:

We loved going on the water-slides at the end of the day (5-6:30 pm) when lines were very short.  Several times my daughter and I would ride down and then hop right back in line and go down again.  Who can resist going twice in a row when there is no line?!  Have to take advantage of this time frame.
